Commercial Switchboard Upgrade – Rockliff Seafoods

J&P Electrical completed a major commercial switchboard upgrade for Rockliff Seafoods Pty Ltd in Mooloolaba, replacing an ageing and hazardous electrical installation with a custom 630A-rated switchboard and upgraded site infrastructure.
The Challenge
The existing switchboard installation was extremely old and presented significant safety and access concerns.
Rockliff Seafoods also required additional electrical capacity to support the ongoing operation and future requirements of the site.
The project therefore required more than a simple switchboard replacement. The existing electrical infrastructure needed to be upgraded while carefully managing the requirements of a high-capacity commercial installation.
The J&P Electrical Solution
J&P Electrical designed and installed a custom 630A-rated commercial switchboard, providing the site with significantly increased electrical capacity and a modern electrical distribution system.
The project included:
Custom 630A-rated switchboard
Replacement of the existing switchboard installation
Installation of large 300mm² flexible cables
New and upgraded electrical infrastructure
Cable installation and termination
Electrical isolation and switching procedures
Coordination with Energex
HV switching coordination and documentation
Testing and commissioning
Working Around Complex Site Conditions
The project required careful planning and coordination due to the scale of the electrical infrastructure and the existing site conditions.
One of the significant challenges was installing and terminating 300mm² flexible cables as part of the new electrical infrastructure.
The works also required J&P Electrical to coordinate with Energex and work alongside their activities, including HV switching requirements and associated switching documentation.
Projects involving this level of electrical infrastructure require experienced electricians, detailed planning and strong coordination between the electrical contractor, network provider and customer.
From an Ageing Installation to a Modern Commercial System
The transformation was significant.
The existing switchboard room was no longer suitable for the site's requirements. J&P Electrical replaced the old installation with a purpose-built, high-capacity switchboard designed to provide a safer and more reliable electrical supply.

The Result
The completed project has provided Rockliff Seafoods with a safer, higher-capacity and more reliable electrical installation to support the operation of the Mooloolaba site.
